Fall 2009, French 4051: French for Business.
Our class project was the creation of a quality bilingual journal, from idea to final product. As "chef de groupe", I led a team of fellow students to conceptualize, gain submissions for, design and print the first issue of Pages d'art. We presented the project before a panel of judges, who selected Pages d'art as the basis for a long-term journal. The French Dept. continues to print 100 copies per issue and hopes to launch an online edition in 2012.
In addition, our class organized a Francophone literary cabaret, "Le Chat Rouge," featuring a creative combination of dramatic readings, live music, and impromptu theatricals. As a performer, I recited literary selections and interacted with the rest of the cast.

2010 Honors Fellow.
I was selected to join fifty students from around the country for a weeklong Honors conference, themed "The Purpose of a University." In conjunction with pre-conference readings, I maintained a blog to explore my questions about education. During the year, I have continued fascinating conversations with fellows and faculty, especially at weekend colloquia in Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Philadelphia, hosted by a partner organization, Liberty Fund.
ISI at LSU, 2010-11 Founder and President.
After I returned from the Honors Conference, I began an intellectual reading group. Several committed students meet fortnightly to read ISI books and discuss ideas about education, politics, economics, and other aspects of life. In April 2011, we will host an out-of-town speaker for a public lecture and a small Socratic seminar.

LSU in the French Alps Immersion
Summer 2008 Study Abroad
In the early years of the nineteenth century, Jacques Arnaud migrated from the French Alps to Mexico with his brothers. By 1810, Jacques had established a town in Louisiana called Arnaudville. Two centuries later, Séola Arnaud Edwards discovered her famous ancestor and her roots in Ubaye Valley, France. As a result of her efforts, Jausiers and Arnaudville are now sister cities (villes jumellées) and an exciting ambassadorial opportunity, LSU in the Ubaye Valley, was founded to build France-Louisiana rapport by sending LSU students to the valley. In 2008, I was selected one of ten student participants. I interned in local businesses, participated in cultural and outdoor activities, helped create a film project, and explored the connection between Ubaye and Louisiana. Back at LSU, I represented the program to numerous groups, including delivering a speech at a special ceremony honoring Séola and her husband, Dick Edwards. |

Magazine of the College of Arts & Sciences. Spring 2009.
For independent study credit, I served as a writing intern with the college's biannual magazine, contributing short people profiles and one feature article. In the process, I learned how to conduct interviews and write in a journalistic style.
In addition, I provided the magazine staff with a fresh perspective. By surveying other college magazines, I formulated ideas for improving Kaleidoscope, some of which the editor later implemented.

Cajun Folklore Book
Fall 2007. Anthropology 2423: Introduction to Folklore.
In conjunction with an optional service-learning component, several students and I partnered with the Cajun French Music Association (CFMA) to create a book of Cajun folklore, which could then be sold to benefit the CFMA. We attended CFMA dances, made friends, and collected numerous Cajun jokes, family stories, cultural items, recipes, and photos from CFMA members, which we compiled in our book.
